My years as a performing musician taught me that every note played, every inflection of voice, should serve the song. My years as a stage actor taught me pretty much the same—it’s not about the individual performer, it’s about the scene. It’s about the story being told.
That truth extends to every aspect of a creative project. A font should be used in a design because it serves the design and reflects the character, mood, style and purpose of the piece. Not because it’s a cool new font. The right image, the right sound, the right word at the right moment is the bedrock of persuasive and clear communication.
